I first saw this tattoo by the Maori artist Rangi Kipa in 2012. Six years before my recovered memory in 2018, I was drawn to it. After my body remembered my childhood sexual abuse, I knew why I wanted this tattoo, to reclaim my body for myself. After a three-year Covid delay, I am headed to Taranaki, New Zealand on March 24, 2023 for six weeks to receive a similar peha/puhoro from Rangi Kipa. A capstone event for my life-long healing journey, which videographer Mark Dwyer will help me document. I am ready.
